Preparation – a book by Nicole Stuart

14 Jan

The CO2 concentration is growing, world temperatures are rising, the ice caps are melting. Huge hurricanes and ice storms batter the northern continents. And still the Governments of the world do nothing!
Justin, a scientist, convinces his wife that now is the time to make the preparations to save their lives. They realize that preparation will be critical for their survival, if the worst were to happen in the near future. They start planning, and are surprised to find that numerous others are as concerned, and also willing to turn that concern into action. They find a place that, they think, has at least a chance of surviving the catastrophe that is heading their way, then they discover that the weather and the rising seas are not the only threats!
Nicole Stuart has evaluated the threat and its implications, and her tale of how ordinary people manage to survive, and to retain what makes them human, makes enthralling reading!

Virus, an eBook by Nicole Stuart

25 Jul

A deadly infection is sweeping the world, and there is no cure. Innocent people are becoming infected, and they die, sometimes within three days or sometimes after up to two weeks, but in every case, contracting the disease is a death warrant. The Armed Forces and the Police are becoming paralysed. Even the terrorist group that deliberately spread the infective agent has misjudged the potential of the disease on themselves, and the disease is running rampant.
Robert Svenson, a young virologist, has designed a radical new medication that can stop the disease, but he becomes the target of the terrorists as they scrabble to save themselves, and to prevent the cure being disseminated. He and his associates race to perfect the treatment as they fight off the terrorists at the same time.

Justis

I’d like to tell you about my newest book – Justis.

Have you ever felt that true justice is available only to the wealthy?  That is often the truth.  John Davis was confident that he would win the lawsuit against a man who had taken him for a ride.  He had built his business carefully and honestly.  Solly Abrams promised to market John’s products, and placed a big order, on the proviso that he would get the sole selling rights to the most lucrative markets.  John delivered the goods and Solly promised to pay.  Eventually, John’s patience ran thin and he demanded performance by Solly, in terms of sales and of payment for the goods delivered.  Then, when the deadline was about to expire, Solly pulled a classical stunt.  John got the message, he thought, and cancelled the sole selling rights.  Solly responded with a claim that John believed to be frivolous, but he had no other choice – it was sue Solly for payment or lose his business and three year’s hard work.

That was when John’s nightmare began!  He found that justice can sometimes – often – be bought, by paying for legal expertise, by employing legalised delaying tactics, or by buying the Judge.  When John recovered from the shock of the huge judgement against him, he decided that honest people needed an avenue to true justice, and he and some associates provided that avenue.

It did not take John too long to find that what seems to be true justice is sometimes less satisfying than the flawed legal system!

Population – a Book by Nicole Stuart

2 Jun

A university Professor is obsessed by the threat of the growing world population.  He calculates that the world will be submerged beneath a tide of uneducated poor, whose sole aim will be to eat whatever food the world is able to produce, until there is no more.  He is scorned by his peers and his audience, who are, unfortunately, unable to convince him that his proposal to allow the poor to die is not the only way to solve the problem.

Max and Ann learn of the Professor’s theories, and they start to consider a more humane alternative, believing that the better route is to provide adequate food for the poor at an affordable price, so allowing them to devote more time and energy to lifting themselves out of the poverty trap, to gaining the education that will free them of their shackles of poverty.  They use a product produced by an Integra subsidiary as an ingredient in a new type of food that provides the nutrition needed by the poor, but their success draws them to the attention of Joseph Mbonani, a rapacious raider of companies who uses his influence in State bodies and banks to blackmail the owners of target companies to hand him a share of their companies.  The alternative to capitulation is staring them in the face – Mbonani has stalled their loan application to a bank of which he is a Director, and he threatens the imposition of penalties by the Revenue Services, an organisation with draconian powers and no moral inhibition in applying them.  There seems to be no escape from the trap he has set!

Max makes contact with Integra, and is invited to discuss the situation.  As he is preparing to fly to Germany, he becomes aware that the Police have been drawn into the plan by Mbonani.  They escape and reachGermany, where they convince Integra to support their plan.  Once the business is operating well in its new home, Max and Ann turn their attention to Mbonani, and soon find that he is involved with the Professor in a business that uses Food Aid to kill the recipients!

Thoughts

23 May

A lazy New Year lunch develops into a discussion of why the people of the world are so complacent about the many issues that should excite controversy and action, things like global warming and the profligate use, almost to exhaustion, of the world’s limited resources.  Pete, a young industrialist, has developed a new class of military helmet with some special qualities.  He offers it to his friends to look at, and Ariadne puts it on her head.  To her surprise, she finds that her thinking processes are relieved of much of the static that people have come to accept as normal – her thinking is clear again, as it used to be.

The friends agree to report the phenomenon to the Special Branch of the Police, but Joseph, who does this, is arrested on a charge of treason, for possession of State secrets.  When a writ of Habeas Corpus is sought by his Attorney, he is released, but killed soon after in a mysterious explosion, and the friends soon find that they are the targets of Police surveillance.

They flee to a remote farm, and try to work out the source of the transmission that is affecting their thinking, to work out a way to nullify the massive forces trying to take them out of contention.  Using friends and contacts, they escape the country and travel to theUnited States, where a senior Senator assists them to escape the traps that exist for them even there.  Pete is able to manufacture sufficient helmets for the US Secret Service and several allied agencies to use in tracking the source of the transmission that threatens to undermine law and order throughout the world.

Come to think of it – do you believe that you are thinking clearly at all times?

Meteor Impact

23 May

The Earth appears to be everlasting.  But 65 million years ago, an asteroid the size of a small mountain hit the Earth, flinging huge amounts of vaporized rock and dust into the atmosphere.  The dinosaurs, a species that had dominated the planet for 150 000 000 years were wiped out of existence, together with 90% of all other life on Earth.

An unlikely event?

Not at all!  Here are about 26 000 substantial objects presently orbiting the sun, each large enough to cause a catastrophic event in a collision with the planet, and each subject to changes in their path by gravitational effects.  We presently know the paths of only about 2 000 of them – less than 10%!  This discounts the objects not in solar orbit, objects that we will probably not know about until they are within days of impact with our home planet!

Jeff Ambrose is an amateur astronomer.  He is hunting for a supernova, but notices that some of the stars in the constellation he is watching blink out of sight for a few seconds at a time.  Tracking this phenomenon, he realises that he has found a number of large objects racing through Space towards the Earth!  He tries to enlist the aid of the National Space Agency, but is blocked by politically-connected people who want to claim the glory for themselves.  Enlisting the aid of Andie Morrison, a brilliant young scientist, he escapes the trap that has been set for him and heads for Germany, where a massive privately-owned corporation has the imagination and courage to back his effort to warn the countries of the world.

The group must work to develop a detailed understanding of the objects, to develop new ways of knocking them off their course and to deal with the aftermath of the multiple impacts, all the time fighting off fringe fanatics who see the threat as the realisation of the many prophecies of the end of the world.

‘Meteor Impact’ is the result of considerable study of the likely events surrounding this possible, even probable, challenge to our lives.  It is available at
